6 steps to successfully migrate to Australia

Step 1: Learn about the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa

A Temporary Skill Shortage Visa or TSS Visa is an employer sponsored visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.

There are currently 508 jobs that can be sponsored through the TSS Visa. All occupations belong to one of three occupation lists: Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Medium to Long Term Strategic List (MLTSSL) and the Regional Occupation List (ROL). The occupation list will determine what level of English is required, how long the visa can be granted for and what options there are for Permanent Residency.

Our TSS Visa information Centre has given many people the power to understand the process in detail, from start to finish.

Step 2: Gathering the correct documents

Once you have finished researching the TSS Visa or the Australian job market, it’s time to gather the required documents. This can take months depending on what the requirements are for your specific occupation.

You will need to provide specific documents to prove you meet the TSS Visa requirements. These include English, Work Experience, Character, Skills and Qualification requirements.

Applying for jobs before you have gathered all of your documents can be a huge waste of your time and potentially ruin future chances of being invited for interviews. Employers do not want to wait additional months for applicants to prepare and gather their documents. Once applicants are interviewed or offered a job, employers will want to immediately proceed with the next steps to finalise your visa sponsorship.

Gathering your documents first and having them assessed gives you and potential employers peace of mind you can apply for the TSS Visa as soon as you’re offered the job.

Step 3: Getting your documents checked

This is not a requirement by the Australian Government. You don’t have to get your documents checked by a professional. You can simply proceed to applying for jobs or even lodging your own TSS Visa application.

But why is it so important to get them checked?

It’s common for applicants to think they have all the required documents. However, it’s even more common for applications to have missing or incorrect documents. This often results in visa applications being delayed or refused, and additional costs being incurred. Plus employers have no guarantee that you are eligible for the visa.

MARA Registered Migration Agents or Lawyers with a MARN number can support you in ensuring that your documents are correct and complete for the visa application. At Visa Jobs, we provide general information about TSS Visa but once you have gathered all of your documents, we will send them to be thoroughly assessed by our affiliated Registered Migration Agents at a discounted rate.

Once one of our affiliated Registered Migration Agents has assessed your documents they will issue you with an Eligibility Report that will identify your eligibility for the TSS Visa. You can submit this report to potential employers giving them a guarantee and peace of mind that you are eligible for a sponsored visa.

Step 4: Start searching for employers

Not all employers are registered to sponsor even if they advertise that they can. Most employers will also try to find onshore candidates before they consider overseas candidates, which can make the process of applying even longer.

At Visa Jobs, we only provide you with job opportunities that are able to offer TSS sponsorship. Our goal is to make searching and applying for jobs as smooth as possible so you can land your dream job in Australia.

Step 5: Applying for the TSS Visa

You can only apply for the TSS Visa once you have an employer who is willing to sponsor you.

This is where all the documents you have prepared in Step 2 will come in handy. As soon as you are offered a job and you have accepted, your employer will lodge a nomination application for processing.

The current processing time takes around 30 to 60 days depending on the number of applicants and how long it takes the department to process applications.

Step 6: Visa approved! Start planning your new life

Once your TSS Visa has been approved you or your Registered Migration Agent will be notified by the Department of Immigration that your visa has been granted. You will be issued with a Visa Approval Notice.

Congratulations for reaching this stage, and welcome to Australia!
